According to an earlier report, President Obama was thought to owe a huge tax bill due to what appeared to be the largest gift in history.

Documents filed by the Republican National Committee and the Mitt Romney Presidential Campaign appear to put that issue to rest.  According to the documents, the selection of Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) as Romney’s Vice Presidential running mate was actually paid for by the Democratic National Committee.

According to a DNC spokesperson, “This payment to the  RNC is not a political contribution in exchange for a political favor.  Instead this is the common practice of hiring outside consultants to help shape a campaign.  In the case of the DNC, we have been spending millions of dollars over the past six months trying to tie Mitt Romney to Paul Ryan’s budget proposals to end Medicare and turn it into a voucher program, but we hadn’t gotten the traction we were hoping for.  The RNC and its affiliated propaganda arms, Fox News and the Wall Street Journal, came up with a proposal to help us make that connection.  We thought it was brilliant, and gave them the green light to go ahead with the marketing campaign for us.”

The Federal Election Commission is looking into the ramifications of this move.  “Probably the biggest concern for us,” said one FEC official, ” is that any contribution to the Romney campaign that pays for an ad that mentions that Paul Ryan is Romney’s running mate may end up being considered an in-kind contribution to the Obama campaign.”

BREAKING: Obama May Declare Bankruptcy

August 13, 2012

IRS officials are said to be poised to slap President Obama with a huge tax bill, so large the Democrat may have to declare bankruptcy.

At issue is the Gift Tax, and Mitt Romney’s announcement today that Paul Ryan will be his running mate.

“This announcement is a huge gift to Obama.  In fact it is the largest gift I have seen in my career,” said one IRS official.  “We have appraisers working right now to try to assess the value of this gift, but so far the closest to a valuation we have gotten is ‘Priceless'”.  Once we have a better handle on the dollar value of this gift, we’ll be presenting the President with a bill.”

Independent experts say the value is so high that the tax bill will likely cause Obama to have to declare bankruptcy.

Well, crap.

The Tea Party is Wrong (but not about everything)

August 30, 2011

The Tea Party is right – you ARE Taxed Enough Already.

The Tea Party is right – the government does need to balance its budget.

Waste is in the eye of the beholder

The Tea Party is wrong – the entire federal budget isn’t waste. Ask a dozen Tea Baggers and you’ll get a dozen different answers that all start “Get rid of everything… except (insert the program thet benefits them directly)”.

The Tea Party is wrong – we shouldn’t balance the budget by cutting more jobs in a bad economy.

The Tea Party is wrong – taxing the rich won’t bring our economy down. In fact, it will bring our economy back.

The Tea Party is wrong – the rich are not the most productive members of society.

The Tea Party is wrong – the rich don’t give us jobs like saints doling out dispensations. Jobs are created by economic demand. If there is money to be made, business will do whatever it takes to make that money, including hiring workers. If there is no money to be made, that is, if there is no demand for a good or service, no amount of extra cash on hand is going to incite a business to spend it on hiring a worker to produce a good or service that nobody can afford.  (And you can take that to the bank… because that is where big corporations are sitting on piles and piles of cash, waiting for demand to return, right this second!)

The Tea Party is wrong – they are supporting the very forces that are making their lives difficult and making them angry.

200 More

July 26, 2011

Today’s Daily Post Topic is “What would you like 200 more of?”

I would love 200 more Congressmen and Senators who are responsive to their constituents.

The majority of Americans want to make sure the steps taken to fix the economy and run the government equitably share the pain.  They want cuts that don’t impact those already suffering from the down economy and inequitable wealth distribution.  They want taxes increases that ensure that everyone is paying for their fair share – that those who disproportionately benefit from our society should pay a higher percentage in taxes – partly because they can afford it, and partly because of the extremely well off don’t pay a lot of the same prices that the rest of us have to pay while having access to benefits that the rest of us don’t.

The majority of Americans recognize that income disparity is a bad thing, and when fully informed about just how bad things have gotten, want a more progressive tax code.

Congress is and has been more responsive to their financial backers than to their constituents, steadily cutting a little here, changing a little there, shifting the tax burden more on to those who cannot afford it while cutting services to those same people.

We could definitely use 200 (or more!) more responsive elected officials.
